Various Artists - Princess Nicotine: Folk and Pop Sounds of Myanmar Vol. 1

I came across this during the last #indie.torrents leechfest and ended up really liking it. I haven't traditionally been a huge fan of "world" music, but lately my ears have been opening up a little more to universal sounds. What is really cool about this compilation is that it sounds vaguely like 1960s American or Western pop, but then again not at all. The foreign language and instrumentation completely change up the Western pop paradigm. At some points it sounds like traditional Eastern music, at others free jazz, and at still other the 1960s Western pop music we know and love. It is really all over the place.

Bo Hein - Burmese Golden Drum
Ni Ni Win Shwe - My Darling's Love Arrow

*Edit: Sorry I didn't post yesterday. I found out mid-day that instead of just having the flu (which is what I originally thought) that I actually had/have the flu, a sinus infection, and pneumonia. Looks like I won't be back at school for awhile longer. Sigh.
